Whimsymaxxing: add joy to everyday things

Where the term comes from

TODAY described whimsy maxxing in July 2026 as intentionally adding joy and playfulness to everyday life, with examples from colorful glassware to a pink Hello Kitty phone (TODAY, 15 Jul 2026). By August, Fortune was using “whimsymaxxing” for Gen Z putting gems on coffee cups and skincare (Fortune, 28 Aug 2026), and Dazed reported it on the runway at New York Fashion Week in September 2026 (Dazed, 17 Sep 2026).

Bedazzling ideas for whimsymaxxing

• A gem-framed vanity or hand mirror, character-style.
• A phone case with a cluster of hearts and pearls.
• A jewel-covered tumbler — kept below the rim.
• Gem stickers on a laptop, planner or headphones.
• A sparkly journal cover.
• Rhinestone details on Crocs and sneakers.

How to keep it charming, not cluttered

Pick one color story (pastels, candy brights or crystal and pearl) and repeat it across a few objects rather than covering everything at once. Big gems read best from a distance; tiny ones add sparkle up close.
