How the estimate works

Round stones pack best in a honeycomb: each row offset by half a stone. Each stone then occupies an area of pitch² × 0.866, where the pitch is the stone’s diameter plus the gap. The calculator divides your area by that. Scattered designs use a fraction of the full count.

The same formula reproduces the per-square-inch figures published by rhinestone suppliers, which is how we know it is in the right range. Real projects with handles, seams and letters come in a little under the estimate.

Buying by colour

Mixed kits spread their stones across many colours. If a design is mostly one colour, check that colour alone: a 40-colour tub of 50,000 holds around 1,250 of each. Single-colour bulk bags of 10,000 or more exist in most sizes.
