What makes a kit child-friendly

  • Gems on sticker sheets, or gem-art canvases with a tacky surface.
  • Larger stones that small fingers can handle.
  • A pen-style picker instead of tweezers.
  • A finished item they can use: a water bottle, keychain, suncatcher or bag.
  • An age mark suited to the child.

Why adult kits aren’t suitable

Jelly rhinestone kits usually include solvent glue with strong fumes, and tens of thousands of 3 mm stones that spill easily. Hotfix wands run hot enough to burn instantly. Older children can help with hotfix designs if an adult handles the wand; the child places stones on a template and the adult presses.

Common questions

Can a 10-year-old use a bedazzler?

A self-adhesive gem kit, yes. A hotfix applicator should be handled by an adult, and solvent glues aren’t suitable for children.

Are jelly rhinestone kits safe for kids?

The stones themselves are small parts, and the included glue is usually a solvent adhesive. They are designed for teens and adults.
